Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner D.S. Ramesh has directed officials to prepare ward-wise action plans for the maintenance of major storm water drains across Mahadevapura and K.R. Pura zones. The directions were issued during a review meeting covering storm water drain maintenance, CMIDP and SSIP development works, and removal of dangerous structures ahead of the monsoon season.

Storm Water Drain Maintenance Directions
- Maintenance works to cover:
Approximately 35 km of concrete storm water drains in Mahadevapura Zone
- Approximately 45 km in K.R. Pura Zone
- Ward-wise maintenance action plans must be prepared and implemented systematically.
- Desilting operations must be conducted four times annually at three-month intervals.
- Executive Engineers have been directed to continuously monitor maintenance activities.
- Daily drain cleaning targets must be fixed and progress reports submitted in kilometres.
- Officials must submit before-and-after drone videos and photographs as maintenance proof.
- Coordination has been directed with World Bank-funded project implementation units where drain development works are ongoing.
- Surprise inspections will be conducted to verify cleaning works.
- Flood-prone locations must be identified and precautionary measures implemented before the monsoon season.
CMIDP and SSIP Road Works
The Commissioner instructed officials to:
- Complete asphalt road works by May 15, 2026 in areas where civil works are already completed.
- Complete pending civil and infrastructure development works by May 30, 2026.
Removal of Dilapidated Structures
Officials were directed to:
- Identify unsafe buildings, compound walls, retaining walls, and dangerous structures.
- Remove hazardous structures located on government land immediately.
- Issue notices to private property owners regarding unsafe structures.
- Install barricades and public safety notices in hazardous areas.
- Arrange alternative pedestrian and traffic movement where necessary.
The Commissioner stated that Executive Engineers and Assistant Executive Engineers would be held responsible for incidents caused by unsafe structures within their jurisdiction.
