Greater Bangalore
Authority (GBA)

GBA coordinates metropolitan planning across 250+ local bodies, 8,000 sq km, and 15 million residents. Every decision here shapes your ward.

What is the GBA?

The Greater Bengaluru Authority is a unified metropolitan planning body that brings together BBMP, BDA, BMRCL, BWSSB, BESCOM and surrounding municipalities under one umbrella. Established to eliminate silos between agencies and deliver integrated urban services.

GBA approves large-scale projects — metro lines, ring roads, lake restoration, water networks — that span multiple wards and local bodies. Its Master Plan 2041 is the blueprint for Greater Bangalore's next 15 years.

How GBA Impacts Your Ward

  • Infrastructure decisions like road widening and flyovers often originate at the GBA level, not BBMP.
  • Water supply upgrades, sewage, and lake conservation are coordinated by GBA with BWSSB.
  • Land-use changes and commercial zones near your ward may be designated by GBA planning.
  • Metro expansions and transport hubs require GBA approval before ground-breaking.
  • Environmental mandates — green building rules, solar requirements — are set by GBA policy.
