Obstacle-Free Footpaths, Pothole Repairs and Junction Beautification Prioritised by East City

Bengaluru East City Corporation has announced a comprehensive civic action plan focusing on footpath encroachment clearance, scientific pothole repairs, and beautification of major junctions. The initiative aims to improve pedestrian safety, road quality, and overall urban mobility across the Corporation limits.

Key Details:

• Commissioner D.S. Ramesh chaired a review meeting with Engineering Division officials on 26 June 2026.

• A special drive to remove unauthorized footpath encroachments will begin on 1 July 2026, with the first phase scheduled for completion by 10 July 2026.

• Encroachments including roadside kiosks, temporary sheds, pushcarts, canopies, advertisement boards, barricades, and other obstructions on footpaths will be removed.

• Senior officers will serve as nodal officers, supported by special teams comprising Assistant Executive Engineers, Assistant Engineers, Health Inspectors, Pourakarmikas, Marshals, tractor units, silt removal teams, and necessary machinery.

• The first phase of the drive will cover:

Old Madras Road

• ITPL Main Road

• Sarjapur Main Road

• Hoodi–Ayyappanagar Main Road

• Horamavu–K. Narayanapura Road

• AECS Main Road

• Outer Ring Road

• Whitefield Main Road

• EPIP Area

• Other major roads within the Corporation limits.

• Executive Engineers have been instructed to undertake scientific pothole repairs using proper cutting, cleaning, cold mix application, and mechanical compaction.

• Adequate stocks of cold mix material and required machinery are to be maintained for timely repairs.

• The Commissioner warned that disciplinary action will be initiated against concerned engineers if potholes are found during inspections by senior authorities.

• Road development works must comply with Indian Roads Congress (IRC) guidelines, including provision of proper camber and drainage to prevent waterlogging.

• Major junctions will undergo comprehensive beautification, including improvements to footpaths within a 100-metre radius, repainting of zebra crossings, road markings, and enhancement of pedestrian facilities.
