North Bengaluru Gets Structured Animal Waste Management System: BSWML Awards Contract to Mukka Proteins

Bengaluru: In a significant administrative step towards strengthening urban sanitation systems, Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) has issued a Letter of Acceptance dated 18 April 2026, finalising the agency for end-to-end management of animal waste in the North City Corporation limits (Package-4).

The contract has been awarded to M/s Mukka Proteins Limited, which will undertake the collection, transportation, and scientific processing of animal waste, including poultry, fish, pig waste and similar by-products generated from commercial establishments such as meat shops, fish markets and related outlets. The scope is designed to operate on an “as-is-where-is” basis across identified locations within the jurisdiction .

The selection follows Tender Notification No. DGM-4/BSWML/TEND/01/2025-26 CALL-2 dated 27.02.2026 and subsequent approval by the Board of Directors. The approved service charge is ₹1.60 per kilogram (inclusive of GST), which represents 32% of the total service charge collected from waste generators under the system . The contractor has been directed to furnish a Performance Security of ₹10 lakh and execute the agreement within the stipulated timeframe, failing which action may be taken in accordance with the RFP conditions .

From a governance perspective, this development is relevant for multiple stakeholders. For the administration, it reflects a shift towards formalising waste streams that are typically unregulated and environmentally sensitive. For commercial waste generators, particularly in the meat and fish trade, the system introduces a structured compliance mechanism for disposal. For residents, especially those in proximity to markets and high-density commercial zones, the initiative is expected to address persistent concerns relating to odour, dumping, pest infestation and public hygiene.
