Monsoon Preparedness Measures Intensified in Bengaluru South City Corporation

Bengaluru South City Corporation has intensified pre-monsoon preparedness measures to ensure smooth civic administration and flood prevention ahead of the upcoming rainy season. Additional Commissioner (Development) Dr. Naveen Kumar Raju chaired a review meeting with disaster management teams and engineers from various departments to assess infrastructure readiness in vulnerable areas.

Key Details:

• Immediate infrastructure works have been directed in flood-prone and drainage-affected areas including:

Jayanagar Division

• Ranka Colony

• HSR Layout

• IAS Colony

• Sathya Sai Layout

• Anugraha Layout

• Preventive flood-control measures have also been ordered in:

Near Sindoor Convention Hall, J.P. Nagar

• Silk Board Junction

• Aravind Layout

• Lakshmi Layout

• Sarakki Signal

• Areas surrounding Chunchaghatta Lake

• Regular desilting operations are underway in HSR Layout and nearby areas to improve stormwater drain and underground drainage capacity.

• A complete list of vulnerable rajakaluve (stormwater drain) zones within the South Zone is being prepared.

• During heavy rainfall:

Additional pumps and desilting machinery will be deployed in sensitive areas.

• 8 to 10 high-capacity super sucker vehicles are being readied for emergency response.

• A dedicated coordination control room will be established for rain-related complaints and emergency response.

• To ensure faster inter-departmental coordination:

Two nodal officers each from BWSSB and BESCOM will be permanently stationed in the control room.

• The joint task force will function 24/7 during heavy rainfall periods to ensure uninterrupted civic services.

• Dr. Naveen Kumar Raju warned that officials concerned will be held directly accountable for any lapses affecting public safety.

• Instructions have also been issued to complete all pre-monsoon civil works within the stipulated timeline.
