Mass Cleanliness Drive Removes Over 100 Tonnes of Waste in K.R. Puram and Dodda Nekkundi Wards
On the occasion of World Environment Day , Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) conducted a large scale cleanliness and tree plantation drive across K.R. Pura and Dodda Nekkundi Wards .

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) conducted a large-scale cleanliness and tree plantation drive across K.R. Pura and Dodda Nekkundi Wards. The campaign involved 1,600 Poura Karmikas and civic staff, resulting in the removal of more than 100 tonnes of waste and the clearance of 18 identified black spots.



Key Details:
- More than 100 tonnes of construction debris, waste, silt, mud, plastic waste, dry leaves, and other materials were removed.
- 18 black spots identified across the two wards were cleaned and eliminated.
- The drive was carried out with the participation of:
1,600 Poura Karmikas (PKs)
- Auto tipper drivers
- Marshals
- Volunteers
- 14 tractors
- 6 tipper lorries
- 6 compactor vehicles
- 20 auto tippers
- 3 JCB machines
Public Spaces Cleaned
The campaign covered:
- One lake premises
- One government college
- One government school
- One government hospital
- Arterial and sub-arterial roads
- Ward roads
- Medians
- Bus shelters
- Parks
- Footpaths
- Other public spaces
Tree Plantation Initiative
- 60 saplings were planted at Vengayyana Lake premises.
- 3 saplings were planted in Dodda Nekkundi Ward.
- Officials were directed to prepare an action plan for additional plantation along roads, parks, and government lands with Forest Department support.
Awareness Activities
More than *200 metres of wall paintings and murals* were created at:
- ITI Compound
- K.R. Pura Zonal Office Compound
- Dodda Nekkundi Office
- Bengaluru One Building
- Mahadevapura Main Office
- Themes included:
Cleanliness
- Waste segregation
- Water conservation
- Plastic reduction
- Environmental protection
School Awareness Programme
An IEC programme was conducted at the Dodda Nekkundi Government School.
- Activities included:
Painting competition for 50 students
- Quiz competition for 50 students
- Distribution of appreciation certificates
Enforcement Action
During a special enforcement drive:
- 26 cases were booked against violations.
- ₹30,000 in penalties were collected.
- Action was taken against the use of banned single-use plastics and littering.
- Footpath encroachments obstructing pedestrian movement were removed.
Recognition of Civic Workers
- All 1,600 civic workers and *Swachh Safai Mitras were honoured with appreciation certificates.*
- T-shirts, caps, and food kits were distributed.
