The Karnataka Department of Women and Child Development has issued a clarification addressing media reports and audit observations regarding the implementation of the Gruhalakshmi scheme. The department stated that the scheme is being implemented transparently and in compliance with rules.

Key Details:

  • The Gruhalakshmi scheme is implemented through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of ₹2,000 per month to eligible women beneficiaries.
  • 1,94,560 ineligible beneficiaries (income taxpayers and GST filers) are excluded using data from the “Kutumba” system.
  • 2,88,376 registered beneficiaries were reported deceased; verification is conducted using e-janma and field-level officials.
  • 1,03,922 families have updated records and re-registered after the death of original beneficiaries.
  • ₹115 crore was credited to accounts of deceased beneficiaries due to delayed death reporting.
  • ₹15.24 crore has already been recovered through banking coordination (SLBC meetings), with further recovery underway.
  • As of April 2026, 1,30,35,318 beneficiaries are enrolled in the scheme.
