Karnataka Revises Electrical Licensing and Permit Fees; Bengaluru Infra Sector to Watch Closely

The Karnataka Government has issued fresh notifications under the Electricity Act, 2003, revising fees relating to electrical contractor licences, permits, renewals and regulatory approvals across the State.

The notification introduces the Karnataka Fees for Application for Grant of License Rules, 2026, under which every application for grant of licence under Section 14 of the Electricity Act must now be accompanied by a fee of ₹1 lakh.

The Government has also revised fees for:
• Electrical Contractor Licences,
• Electrical Supervisor and Wireman Permits,
• Special Wiring Permits for industries,
• Renewals,
• Examination fees,
• Duplicate licences,
• Change of signatory and address approvals.

The revised structure is expected to have relevance for Bengaluru’s rapidly growing infrastructure ecosystem, particularly in sectors such as:
• real estate,
• EV charging infrastructure,
• industrial parks,
• semiconductor projects,
• commercial developments and
• technology campuses.

Industry observers note that Bengaluru’s increasing dependence on high-voltage systems, industrial automation and integrated infrastructure is leading to tighter regulatory compliance and structured licensing mechanisms in the electrical sector.
