Karnataka Reconstitutes State Minimum Wages Advisory Board

The Karnataka Government has reconstituted the Karnataka State Minimum Wages Advisory Board under Section 42 of the Code on Wages, 2019.

The Board has been formed with representatives from the Government, workers’ unions and employers’ associations. Shri T.M. Shahid Thekkil has been appointed as Chairman. The Board will include representatives from Labour Department, Finance Department, Department of Economics and Statistics, Trade Unions, FKCCI, KASSIA, Peenya Industries Association, Karnataka Employers’ Association, CII, Builders’ Association of India and other bodies.

This Board plays an important role in advising the Government on minimum wage fixation and revision across sectors. For Bengaluru, where a large number of organised and unorganised workers are engaged in construction, hospitality, industries, services and civic work, this development is relevant for both employers and workers.

The term of the Board will be two years from the date of notification or until further orders.
