Gruha Jyothi Scheme: Tenants Need Not Panic During Verification Drive, Clarifies BESCOM

The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) has clarified that tenants receiving free electricity under the Karnataka Government’s Gruha Jyothi Scheme will continue to receive benefits during the ongoing beneficiary verification drive that began on July 1, 2026.

Key Details:

• BESCOM has assured beneficiaries that the verification exercise is a routine process and will not interrupt Gruha Jyothi benefits.

• The verification aims to update Aadhaar details based on the current occupant of each household.

• Existing Aadhaar details linked to previous tenants will be replaced with those of current tenants where applicable.

• Tenants do not need to visit any BESCOM office or submit additional applications on their own.

• BESCOM meter readers and field staff are conducting a door-to-door survey to update beneficiary information, including rental or lease details.

• Beneficiaries are requested to keep relevant documents ready during the staff visit.

• Landlords are encouraged to assist and guide their tenants throughout the verification process.
