Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot said that yoga is one of the most reliable tools for maintaining physical and mental well-being and highlighted the global recognition achieved by India’s ancient yoga tradition. He was speaking during the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations held in Bengaluru on June 21, 2026.

- Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot participated in the 12th International Day of Yoga-2026 programme organised by the Department of AYUSH in front of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.
- He said International Day of Yoga has evolved into one of the world’s largest health and wellness movements.
- According to the Governor, yoga reflects harmony between the mind and body, thought and action, and promotes overall health and well-being.
- He noted that modern lifestyles have created several physical and mental challenges and that yoga offers a healthy body, a calm mind and a positive outlook.
- The Governor recalled that the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as International Day of Yoga in 2014 following the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- He said yoga is now practised by millions of people in more than 190 countries, symbolising global recognition of India’s knowledge, culture and the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”.
- He emphasised the need for healthy and mentally strong youth for building a developed India and encouraged young people to dedicate time every day to yoga.
- Referring to this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, he said yoga helps senior citizens remain physically active, mentally healthy and self-reliant.
- The Governor said he personally follows yoga and pranayama and has experienced their health benefits.
- He called upon people to make yoga, pranayama and meditation an integral part of daily life.
