GBA Directs Flood Preparedness and Drain Works Across Bengaluru

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has issued directives to prevent flooding during the upcoming monsoon , with instructions to complete key stormwater drain and infrastructure works across multiple vulnerable locations in the city.

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has issued directives to prevent flooding during the upcoming monsoon, with instructions to complete key stormwater drain and infrastructure works across multiple vulnerable locations in the city.

Key Details:

  • Additional Chief Secretary Tushar Giri Nath instructed officials to ensure flood preparedness across GBA limits ahead of the monsoon.
  • Ongoing infrastructure works are to be completed before the onset of heavy rains.

Yelahanka – Kendriya Vihar & Kogilu Junction:

  • 2.7 km stormwater drain planned between Yelahanka Lake and Jakkur Lake.
  • 1.5 km RCC drain already completed; temporary drain operational in remaining stretch.
  • Instructions issued for:

Installation of safety grills

  • Regular desilting
  • Deployment of on-site monsoon response teams
  • Drone monitoring of works initiated.

Tata Nagar (Dodda Bommasandra Area):

  • 900-meter stormwater drain under construction.
  • Missing links to be completed within 15 days.
  • Drain widening planned near Royal Mart.
  • Strict direction to prevent sewage mixing with stormwater drains.

Hebbal Lake & Junction:

  • ₹15.90 crore wetland development across 192 acres underway.
  • Encroachments cleared: inlet and wetland works progressing.
  • Four major waterlogging points resolved.
  • Tumkur Road loop ramp work to be completed within 15 days.

Manyata Tech Park & Veeranapalya:

  • Long-standing flooding issues being addressed.
  • 1.2 km artificial drains under construction (partial completion achieved).
  • Land acquisition and private participation involved.

Silk Board Junction:

  • Culvert expansion from 1.5m to 3.5m in progress.
  • Phase 1 deadline: End of April
  • Full completion expected by end of May.
  • Measures initiated to improve traffic flow on double-decker flyover.
