Freedom From Waste Day 1: All Five City Corporations Swing Into Action, 320+ Tonnes of Debris Cleared
On day one of the Freedom From Waste campaign on 1 August 2026, all five GBA city corporations launched clearance operations — East removed 250 tonnes at K.R. Puram and Chinnappanahalli, South cleared 70 tonnes across four constituencies, Central covered all six assembly segments, and North and West flagged off drives in their divisions.

All five city corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), together with Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) and other agencies, swung into action on Saturday, 1 August 2026 — day one of the month-long Freedom From Waste campaign being held as part of the Independence Day celebrations. The campaign targets illegally dumped construction and demolition (C&D) waste, inert waste, tree branches and debris on public roads, footpaths, stormwater drain sides and vacant sites.
Bengaluru East: 250 Tonnes Cleared, 236 Dumping Spots Identified
The campaign was launched at two locations — Mahadevapura MLA Manjula Aravind Limbavali flagged off the drive at Chinnappanahalli Railway Parallel Road, while Commissioner D.S. Ramesh inaugurated it at ITI Gate, K.R. Puram, clearing 250 metric tonnes of C&D waste on day one. A BECC survey has identified 236 illegal dumping spots holding about 12,000 tonnes of waste, all to be cleared in phases. Vehicle registration, waste quantity and disposal are digitally tracked through the ClearIt software, with 4 tippers, 4 JCBs and 8 tractors deployed and waste taken to the designated 5-acre disposal site at Yarappanahalli. Vacant-site owners must clear debris by 15 August — failing which BECC will clean up, recover costs, and levy penalties of Rs 25,000 for the first violation and Rs 50,000–1,00,000 thereafter. Citizens can report illegal dumping with GPS location and photos to the WhatsApp chatbot 9448197197 (identity kept confidential). "Let us transform Freedom From Waste into a people's movement," the Commissioner appealed.
Bengaluru South: 70 Tonnes Removed Across Four Constituencies
Commissioner K.N. Ramesh and Bommanahalli MLA Satish Reddy launched the drive by clearing construction debris at HSR Layout 4th Sector 19th Main Road. Operations ran across Jayanagar, Bengaluru South, Padmanabhanagar and Bommanahalli constituencies, removing 70 tonnes of C&D waste on the first day with 8 tippers, 3 JCBs and 16 workers. At the Jayanagar event, MLA C.K. Ramamurthy, Chief Engineer Basavaraj Kabade and solid waste management ambassador, actor Aniruddha Jatkar, participated. The 15 August deadline and penalty regime for vacant-site owners applies here as well.
Bengaluru Central: Operations in All Six Constituencies
Under Commissioner Jagadish G., clearance operations were taken up simultaneously across all six assembly constituencies of the Central corporation, with location-wise plans published for each division. Launching the drive, the Commissioner urged officials and engineers to use their expertise "to make the city clean, beautiful and public-friendly".
Bengaluru North and West Join In
The Bengaluru North City Corporation launched the campaign across its jurisdiction under Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar, while the Bengaluru West City Corporation flagged off its drive in the Basavanagudi division, part of the one-month citywide push.
The campaign continues through August across all five corporations.
