Formulate Plan to Prevent Waterlogging on Bannerghatta Road: Maheshwar Rao

Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan to permanently address recurring waterlogging on Bannerghatta Road. During an inspection of flood-prone locations under Bengaluru South City Corporation, he reviewed drainage, sewage, road, traffic, lake development, and infrastructure works across several key locations.

Key Details;

• Waterlogging near Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Bannerghatta Road was reviewed.

• Officials were instructed to prepare a permanent solution to prevent flooding caused by backflow from the rajakaluve (stormwater drain).

• Directions were issued to completely desilt the rajakaluve and improve stormwater flow.

• BWSSB officials were instructed to identify and stop sewage inflow into the stormwater drain near Hulimavu Metro Station.

• Utilities obstructing water flow across drains will be relocated after installation of slabs.

• BWSSB was directed to complete ongoing sewer pipeline works between Vega City Mall and Arekere Signal within two days.

• Corporation authorities will begin road asphalting immediately after completion of BWSSB works.

• A second phase of sewer works from Arekere Signal to Hulimavu Metro Station will commence thereafter.

• At Silk Board Junction, rajakaluve capacity is being increased from 1.5 metres to 3.5 metres to reduce flooding.

• Officials were instructed to survey and submit a report for a new drain to address waterlogging in HSR Layout.

• Metro authorities were directed to clear the Balaji Complex site and facilitate construction of a free left turn from Bommanahalli towards BTM Layout.

• Junction development and beautification works beneath Silk Board flyover were ordered to be completed expeditiously.

• Development works worth ₹15 crore at Madiwala Lake are underway, including bund strengthening, walkway development, and drainage improvements.

• During inspection of Ejipura Flyover works, officials directed completion of the Domlur-side ramp within a week and the Madiwala-side ramp within 60 days.
