Commissioner Orders Strict Action on Civic Issues Around Sarakki Lake

Bengaluru South City Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh has directed multiple civic departments to take immediate action on infrastructure, sanitation, and pollution-related issues around Sarakki Lake following an extensive inspection and public interaction held on May 8, 2026.

Key Details:

• The Commissioner conducted a long inspection walk covering approximately 2.5 km around Sarakki Lake.

• Residents raised complaints regarding sewage backflow, pipeline blockages, and drainage issues.

• BWSSB officials were instructed to conduct a scientific assessment of:

Underground drainage (UGD) network capacity

• Desilting requirements

• STP performance and efficiency

• Officials were directed to immediately complete the long-pending second public toilet project near the lake.

• Authorities were asked to provide water connection access without further delay and open the facility for public use.

• Garbage dumping near Asthalakshmi Layout and lake surroundings was observed during the inspection.

• Civic officials were instructed to:

Penalize waste disposal contractors for improper dumping

• Remove construction debris and old concrete slabs from the lake premises

• Officials were directed to investigate stagnant water near Elita Apartments and verify compliance with Karnataka State Pollution Control Board norms.

• BESCOM officials were asked to submit a report regarding ownership of electrical transformers located within the lake premises.

• Residents and members of the Sarakki Walkers Group participated in the inspection and submitted grievances directly to the Commissioner.
