Citizen Suggestions Accepted to Strengthen Solid Waste Management in Bengaluru South City Corporation

A review meeting chaired by Bengaluru South City Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh focused on improving solid waste management systems across the corporation limits. Citizen groups and voluntary organisations shared key recommendations to enhance segregation, monitoring, and public awareness initiatives.

• Key suggestions included:

100% Waste Segregation: Strengthening segregation practices in apartments and PG accommodations

• Blackspot Monitoring: Installation of CCTV cameras at garbage dumping hotspots

• Improved Collection System: Introduction of evening waste collection to prevent roadside dumping

• Waste Management Learning Centres: Establishment of Kalika Kendras in all wards

• CSR Support: Corporate partnerships for composters, shredders, and waste vehicles

• GPS Tracking: Mandatory GPS for all waste collection vehicles for monitoring

• IEC Awareness Campaigns: Expansion of Suchimitra programme through media, theatres, and television

• A major public awareness programme is planned in Gurappanapalya during the first week of June as directed by the Commissioner.

• The Commissioner reaffirmed commitment to making the city cleaner through citizen participation and institutional support.
