BWCC to Launch Special Animal Husbandry Programs for Model Wards

Bengaluru West City Corporation has announced a series of Animal Husbandry Department initiatives aimed at creating Model Wards and reducing street dog bite cases to zero. Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K.V. reviewed the progress of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) and Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV) programmes during a monitoring committee meeting held on June 9.

• The Commissioner directed officials to continue the special street dog adoption programme.

• A special initiative to develop Model Wards has been launched under the 2026-27 budget.

Features of Model Wards

• Zero street dog bite cases.

• Zero puppies on the streets.

• 100% Animal Birth Control coverage for street dogs.

• 100% anti-rabies vaccination coverage.

• Awareness programmes in all schools and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs).

• 100% licensed meat shops.

• Four wards will be selected in the first phase.

• The project will be implemented with support from other departments and NGOs.

• The target is to develop the selected wards into Model Wards within three months.
