BNCC Distributes Cooling Helmets to Traffic Police Under Heat-Health Protocol Pilot

Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC), in collaboration with C40 Cities, Sensing Local, and Hasiru Dala, conducted a health awareness programme and distributed cooling helmets to traffic police personnel as part of the Heat-Health Protocol pilot aimed at protecting outdoor workers from rising temperatures.

Commissioner’s Remarks

Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar highlighted the growing need to protect outdoor workers as temperatures continue to rise due to climate change.

He noted that cooling kits had previously been distributed to:

• Pourakarmikas

• ASHA workers

• Dry Waste Collection Centre workers

The initiative has now been extended to traffic police personnel. BNCC plans to collect feedback on the effectiveness of the cooling kits and explore expanding the programme to benefit more frontline workers.

The Commissioner also stated that proposals are being examined to introduce cooling and heat-mitigation measures at Indira Canteens and selected government offices.

Participants received guidance on:

• Effects of extreme heat

• Heat-related health risks

• Symptoms of heat stress

• Emergency response measures

• Safety precautions for outdoor work

Traffic police personnel, representatives from partner organisations, and BNCC officials attended the programme.
