The Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) has completed cleanliness and beautification works at 50 of the 100 identified garbage blackspots under its UB100 (Uttara Bengaluru 100) Special Cleanliness Campaign. The remaining 50 locations are targeted for completion by July 31, with the initiative focusing on creating cleaner and more citizen-friendly public spaces.

Key Details:

  • The UB100 Special Cleanliness Campaign was launched on June 5 as part of World Environment Day initiatives.
  • The campaign aims to permanently eliminate 100 major garbage blackspots across Bengaluru North City Corporation limits.
  • As of July 2, cleanliness and beautification works have been completed at 50 locations, achieving 50% of the target.
  • The remaining 50 sites are currently undergoing improvement works and are scheduled for completion by July 31.

Works Completed

The completed locations have undergone:

  • Removal of accumulated garbage and waste
  • Footpath repairs
  • Roadside cleaning
  • Streetlight repair and installation
  • Wall beautification and artistic painting
  • Tree plantation and greening
  • Development of public infrastructure, including benches and community spaces

Several locations previously affected by illegal dumping have been converted into cleaner and more accessible public spaces.

Three-Phase Implementation

  • Phase I – Intensive Cleaning and Infrastructure Repairs

Removal of garbage and waste

  • Footpath and roadside repairs
  • Streetlight maintenance
  • Phase II – Site Transformation and Beautification

Wall paintings

  • Tree plantation
  • Public seating installation
  • Development of mini parks and community spaces
  • Phase III – Monitoring and Maintenance

Continuous monitoring to prevent fresh garbage dumping

  • Supervision by Ward Marshals
  • Strengthening of door-to-door waste collection
  • Ongoing public awareness programmes

Public Participation

BNCC stated that active participation from residents, commercial establishments, community organisations and volunteers has contributed significantly to the campaign’s progress. Citizens have been encouraged to avoid littering, segregate waste at source and help maintain the improved public spaces.
