Bengaluru West City Reviews Bulk Waste Management, Directs Action Against Violators

The Bengaluru West City Corporation (BWCC) has directed officials to strengthen monitoring of Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs), ensure compliance with Solid Waste Management Rules, and take action against violators and unauthorized waste vendors. The directions were issued during a review meeting chaired by Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K.V. on July 10.

Key Details:

• There are 1,552 registered Bulk Waste Generators within the Bengaluru West City Corporation limits.

• Officials, including AGMs, Junior Health Inspectors (JHIs), and marshals, have been instructed to identify BWGs that are not complying with waste management rules. Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs) have also been encouraged to report violations.

• The Commissioner urged BWGs to process as much waste as possible within their own premises. Where on-site processing is not feasible, waste must be handed over only to authorized waste management agencies after paying the prescribed charges.

• Action will be taken against:

Bulk Waste Generators that fail to manage waste as per regulations.

• Unauthorized waste collection and disposal vendors.

• The Corporation plans to convert garbage collection lorry points into transfer stations across all Assembly Constituencies within its jurisdiction to enable systematic waste collection and reduce leachate leakage during transportation.

Responsibilities of Bulk Waste Generators

Ramamani, COO of Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML), briefed participants on the Solid Waste Management Rules effective from April 1, 2026.

Under the rules:

• Registration with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) is mandatory for Bulk Waste Generators.

• Waste should be processed on-site wherever possible.

• If on-site processing is not feasible, waste must be handed over to authorized agencies or Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited.

• For Bengaluru West City Corporation, the authorized agencies are:

Material Solutions for Green Planet (MSGP)

• Swaccha Eco Solutions

• Waste must be segregated into four categories:

Wet Waste

• Dry Waste

• Sanitary Waste

• Special Care Waste

• Waste must not be mixed, burnt, dumped in open spaces, or disposed of into drains or water bodies.

• Waste movement and disposal will be monitored through the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Command Center.
