Bengaluru North City to Prioritise Footpath Encroachment Clearance and Maintenance from July 1

Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) will begin a citywide drive from July 1 to clear footpath encroachments and improve pedestrian infrastructure. In the first phase, 100 km of footpaths will be taken up for maintenance across the corporation, with around 15 km identified in each division.

Key Details:

• BNCC Commissioner Shri Pommala Sunil Kumar chaired a review meeting on footpath encroachment clearance and maintenance.

• The initiative follows directions issued by Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Shri Krishna Byre Gowda.

• Officials have been instructed to identify footpaths affected by encroachments, debris, and other obstructions to improve pedestrian access.

• The 2026–27 Budget provides funding for the maintenance of 1,000 km of footpaths within BNCC limits.

• The tender process has been completed, and work orders are being issued.

• In the first phase, 100 km of footpaths will be developed and maintained, with approximately 15 km in each division.

• Executive Engineers have been directed to submit lists of footpaths requiring maintenance and improvement.

• Civil works and maintenance contracts will be taken up wherever required.

Re-encroachment Prevention

• BNCC will strengthen day and night patrolling to prevent fresh encroachments.

• Monitoring will be carried out using the existing two Prahari vehicles and two newly procured vehicles.

• Two marshals will be deployed in each vehicle for continuous enforcement.
