Bengaluru North City Corporation Begins Trial of Mechanized Road Cleaning Machines

Bengaluru, February 5:
The Bengaluru North City Corporation has launched a pilot trial of mechanized cleaning machines to replace traditional broom-based road sweeping. The trial was initiated on 1st Main Road, Sahakarnagar, under the leadership of Commissioner Sri. Pommala Sunil Kumar.

During the launch, the Commissioner personally operated the machines and reviewed their advantages and limitations. Pourakarmikas were briefed on the correct usage of the equipment and instructed on work methods aimed at keeping the city clean and well-maintained.

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner stated that mechanized cleaning has been introduced to improve daily road cleaning operations and to reduce the physical strain on pourakarmikas. As part of this initiative, street sweeping machines, blower machines, trolley dust bins for road waste collection, and traffic cones for safety have been inducted on a pilot basis.

He further advised pourakarmikas to use the machines effectively to enhance cleaning efficiency. Based on the outcomes of this pilot project, a proposal will be submitted to the government for the procurement of additional machines.

Use of Hotel Toilets by Pourakarmikas:
It has already been instructed that pourakarmikas are permitted to use hotel toilets during duty hours when public toilets are not available nearby. Meetings with hotel owners were conducted earlier, requesting their cooperation. However, instances of obstruction have been reported. In such cases, pourakarmikas are advised to inform the concerned officials.

Reducing Public Complaints:
Pourakarmikas are encouraged to carry out their duties diligently to minimize public complaints related to garbage management. Quoting the principle “Kayakave Kailasa,” the Commissioner emphasized collective responsibility toward city cleanliness. He also stated that officials should address the problems and concerns of pourakarmikas promptly.

Additional Commissioner Smt. Latha, Joint Commissioners Sri. Mohammad Naeem Momin and Smt. Pallavi, DGM Smt. Rashmi, along with other officials and staff of the Corporation, were present during the inspection.

Cleaning Equipment Procured (Pilot Phase):

  • Street Sweeping Machines: 33
  • Blower Machines: 14
  • Dust Bins with Wheels: 35
  • Traffic Cones: 23 pairs

The total cost of the above equipment is approximately ₹10 lakh.
