Bengaluru East Corporation Reviews Monsoon Preparedness and Lake Protection Measures

Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner D.S. Ramesh chaired a coordination meeting to review monsoon preparedness, lake conservation, stormwater drain maintenance, sewage management, flood prevention, and emergency response measures across the corporation limits. Officials from BWSSB, BESCOM, Traffic Police, Fire and Emergency Services, and other departments participated in the meeting.

Key Details:

• Treated Water Pipeline to Koudenahalli Lake

BWSSB officials informed that treated water from the STP will be released to Koudenahalli Lake through a trenchless pipeline system to avoid road cutting.

• Joint site inspection for the pipeline work has already been completed.

• Officials were instructed to obtain permissions from the divisional Executive Engineer and complete the work within 20 days.

• Vengayyana Lake Sewage Diversion

Two STPs with 30 MLD capacity each are functioning near Vengayyana Lake.

• Officials stated that treated water and untreated sewage are currently mixing before entering the lake.

• The Commissioner directed departments to install separate pipelines for treated water and divert untreated sewage separately within 20 days.

• Devarabeesanahalli Lake Management

A 1.3 MLD STP maintained by the Adarsha Residential Apartment Association is functioning with approval.

• Another 900 KLD STP is awaiting Consent for Operation approval from the Pollution Control Board.

• Once approved, sewage from nearby residential complexes will be diverted for treatment before discharge into the lake.

• Real-Time Monitoring for Lakes

Officials were instructed to install sensor-based monitoring systems to track:

Water quantity

• Flow levels

• Water quality

• The system is intended to improve transparency and public monitoring.

• Warning Against Unauthorized Road Digging

• Unauthorized road excavation was reported on:

ITPL Road

• Devasandra Road

• Sarjapur Road

• Devarabeesanahalli area

• The Commissioner directed officials to take strict action and register FIRs against agencies digging roads without permission.

• Stormwater Drain Maintenance

• Bengaluru East Corporation has:

225 km stormwater drain network

• 125 km concrete drains completed

• 100 km earthen drains pending development

• Officials were instructed to submit daily maintenance reports and improve drain upkeep before monsoon rains.

• Underpass Flood Prevention Measures

• Preventive measures were ordered in:

Tubarahalli

• Kundalahalli

• Devarabeesanahalli

• Lowry Junction

• Doddanekkundi

• Panathur

• Special teams were instructed to clean catchpits and remove debris regularly.

• Emergency Response Preparedness

• Subdivision-level emergency response teams will be deployed in flood-prone areas.

• Officials were instructed to respond to complaints within 10–15 minutes.

• Departments were directed to keep equipment such as:

Pump sets

• JCBs

• De-watering pumps

• Tippers

• Tarpaulins

• Ready throughout the monsoon season.

• Removal of Debris and Dangerous Trees

• Traffic Police were instructed to intensify night patrols to prevent illegal dumping of garbage and construction debris.

• Officials were also directed to identify and remove dangerous trees and branches before heavy rains.

• Streetlight Maintenance

• Authorities were instructed to ensure proper functioning of streetlights at:

• Main roads

• Underpasses
