Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner D.S. Ramesh chaired a review meeting on the proposed stormwater drain conservation and buffer service road project connecting the Bellandur waste weir/outlet to Virginia Mall near Old Airport Road. The meeting focused on land acquisition, stormwater management, infrastructure connectivity, and technical implementation.

Key Details:

  • The proposed buffer service road project spans approximately 18 kilometres.
  • The project corridor extends from the Bellandur waste weir/outlet to Virginia Mall near Old Airport Road.
  • Around 80 properties have been identified for land acquisition within a 2-kilometre stretch.
  • Officials stated that nearly 50 percent of the land survey and documentation work has been completed.
  • Commissioner D.S. Ramesh directed officials to complete remaining land survey and property identification work within 15 days in coordination with Survey and Revenue Department authorities.
  • The Detailed Project Report (DPR) was reviewed during the meeting.
  • Officials were instructed to include Railway Over Bridges (ROBs) and Railway Under Bridges (RUBs) in the DPR to improve connectivity infrastructure.
  • Discussions were held regarding connecting the proposed buffer road to the Outer Ring Road and managing railway crossing connectivity.
  • Officials were instructed to study widening certain stormwater drain stretches up to 30 metres to improve rainwater flow and reduce flooding risks.
  • Directions were issued to examine possible violations of buffer zone and setback regulations along the project corridor.
  • Joint site inspections were ordered involving B-SMILE, Engineering, Revenue, Land Acquisition, and TDR division officials.
  • The Corporation stated that work may initially begin in undisputed land sections to avoid delays caused by legal challenges.
