Bengaluru East City Corporation has outlined a detailed pre-monsoon and monsoon preparedness plan focusing on flood prevention, drainage management, and inter-departmental coordination.



Key Details:
- A high-level review meeting was chaired by Commissioner D.S. Ramesh on April 10, 2026
- Disaster Management Coordination Teams to be formed with officials from multiple departments including BWSSB, BESCOM, Traffic Police, Fire Department, Forest Department, and SDRF
- 24×7 control rooms to be activated across all divisions
- Flood-prone areas identified for immediate action before April 15, including:
Sarjapur Main Road (near Columbia Asia Hospital)
- Geddalahalli, Sai Layout, Vaddarapalya
- Pai Layout, Munnekollalu, Doddanekkundi, Bellathur
- Panathur Railway Bridge, Shivagangana Layout
- Challaghatta, Yemalur, Kadugodi, Channasandra Main Road
- Key preventive measures include:
Desilting of drains and rajakaluves
- Removal of debris, plastic, and construction waste
- Improvement of stormwater flow and drainage connectivity
- Encroachment clearance along rajakaluves in areas like Munnekollalu, Doddanekkundi, Fern City, Challaghatta, and Yemalur
- Stormwater drain development to be accelerated under World Bank-funded projects
Technical Measures:
- Non-return valves installation in Pai Layout
- Automatic pumping systems in Munnekollalu
- Water level indicators in underpasses
Infrastructure & Maintenance:
- Completion of drain desilting across all levels
- Cleaning of roadside drains and gratings
- Completion of stormwater projects under CMIDP and SSIP by end of April
- Installation of pipe drains and silt chambers in white-topping roads
Department Responsibilities:
- BWSSB: Sewer line cleaning, manhole repairs, pressure management
- BESCOM & Forest Department: Tree pruning, power disruption prevention
- Traffic Police: Identification of waterlogging points and traffic regulation
Lake Management:
- Cleaning of lake inlets and outlets
- Prevention of sewage inflow through diversion drains
- Action against unauthorized constructions in Saul Kere buffer zone
Emergency Preparedness:
- Deployment readiness of pumps, jetting machines, JCBs, tippers, safety tools, and emergency equipment
Public Advisory:
- Avoid dumping waste into drains and rajakaluves
- Do not encroach upon lakes and stormwater drains
- Use corporation helpline during emergencies
- Cooperate with authorities for public safety and cleanliness
