The newly formed Ward No.11 is home to one of Bengaluru’s greatest public institutions – Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).
For more than seven decades, BEL has stood as a symbol of discipline, innovation, and national service, shaping both India’s defence capability and the growth of this part of Bengaluru. Established in 1954, BEL transformed what was once a quiet area into a thriving industrial and residential community. Roads, schools, housing, and parks came up around its campus, creating the foundation for the vibrant neighbourhood we now call our ward.
How BEL Has Contributed
BEL’s contribution goes far beyond technology.
- It built schools and colleges through the Bharat Electronics Educational Institutions (BEEI), giving quality education to generations of children.
- It set up BEL Hospital and welfare centres that serve employees and local residents alike.
- Its green campus, township planning, and civic maintenance have shown how large institutions can co-exist with nature and neighbourhood life.
These initiatives made BEL not only a workplace but a community builder – shaping the character of the ward and giving identity to areas like BEL Circle and BEL Colony.
BEL and the New Ward Vision
As Ward No.11 now takes new shape under the Namma Ward initiative, BEL’s presence continues to inspire. The ward’s recognition on the city map is inseparable from BEL’s legacy. The discipline, transparency, and innovation that define BEL can also guide the principles of good local governance, where planning, efficiency, and public participation go hand in hand.
People and BEL – A Shared Responsibility
The people of the ward and BEL share a common goal, to make our neighbourhood cleaner, greener, and better connected. By engaging through citizen forums, volunteering drives, skill programmes, and civic initiatives, residents and BEL employees together can build a model ward that reflects both community pride and institutional excellence.
In this way, BEL is not only part of Ward No.11’s history – it is part of its future. Its collaboration with the people will continue to shape good governance, environmental responsibility, and inclusive growth for generations to come.
