86% of LED Street Light Conversion Completed in Bengaluru North City Corporation

Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) has completed 86% of its LED street light conversion project. Additional projects have also been initiated to improve lighting in dark spots through new poles and cable infrastructure across several Assembly constituencies.

Key Details:

• BNCC has converted 86% of conventional street lights into energy-efficient LED lights.

• The project is being implemented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with Government approval.

• LED installation works have been substantially completed in:

Yelahanka

• Byatarayanapura

• Hebbal

• Pulakeshinagar

• Sarvagnanagar

• Five wards of Dasarahalli

• Three wards of Rajarajeshwarinagar

• Remaining installation works and CCMS (Centralized Control and Monitoring System) switch installations are in progress.

• Maintenance of street lights will continue to be handled by the project contractor until the Commercial Operation Date (COD).

68,907 LED Street Lights Installed

• Total street lights within BNCC limits: 1,24,325

• Existing LED street lights: 59,693

• Conventional street lights: 64,632

• Vacant poles: 14,576

• Total LED street lights installed so far: 68,907

Additional Infrastructure for Dark Spots

Based on public complaints and field inspections, BNCC is undertaking new street lighting infrastructure works in poorly illuminated areas.

• Yelahanka and Byatarayanapura Constituencies

Proposed new poles: Approximately 1,313

• Cable network: 63.63 km

• Estimated cost: ₹550 lakh

• Hebbal, Pulakeshinagar and Sarvagnanagar Constituencies

Proposed new poles: 1,601

• Cable network: 46.65 km

• Estimated cost: ₹316 lakh

Overall Project

• Around 1,942 new street light poles proposed.

• Approximately 92.50 km of electrical cable network planned.

• Funds have been made available.

• Tender process has been completed.

• Proposal is currently under approval.
