6 km of Continuous, Clean and Safe Footpath in Kodigehalli – Project Walkaluru 10th Footpath Walk

The 10th Footpath Walk organized under Project Walkaluru was held today in the Kodigehalli area. Responding to the open invitation from the Bengaluru North City Corporation, more than 120 citizens participated and assessed the quality of the footpaths.

The 10th Footpath Walk organized under Project Walkaluru was held today in the Kodigehalli area. Responding to the open invitation from the Bengaluru North City Corporation, more than 120 citizens participated and assessed the quality of the footpaths. This was the 6th walk within the Bengaluru North City Corporation limits, and so far 40 km of footpaths have been covered in this city corporation. At the city level, a total of 78 km has been covered.

Hon’ble Revenue Minister and MLA of Byatarayanapura Constituency, Shri Krishna Byre Gowda, flagged off the programme. Commissioner of Bengaluru North City Corporation, Shri Pommala Sunil Kumar, and Joint Commissioner Shri Mohammed Naem Momin, along with officials and staff, also participated. The walk included more than 120 participants comprising local residents, corporation officials, staff, and walking enthusiasts across different age groups.

The walk route started from the Railway Parallel Road junction and covered parts of Sahakar Nagar and Kodigehalli Main Roads, forming a continuous 6 km stretch of footpath.

Participants were instructed to walk along the designated route and identify major obstacles that forced pedestrians off the footpath onto the road. They were also asked to document and photograph such obstacles.

Assessment Results:

After the 6 km walk, the obstacles encountered were recorded as follows:

• Garbage spots – 0

• Open urination spots – 0

• Broken/missing footpath slabs – 1

• Two-wheelers blocking footpath – 0

• Cars blocking footpath – 1

• Construction materials obstruction – 0

• Shops/vendors blocking footpath – 0

• Encroachments – 0

• Illegal posters – 0

• BESCOM-related obstacles – 4

• Dangerous signboards – 2

Overall, only about 6–8 minor obstacles were observed across the 6 km stretch, with no major issues such as garbage accumulation, open urination, or broken footpaths. Participants expressed appreciation that the footpaths were clean, green, and comfortable for walking.

A few minor improvement suggestions were noted by the Commissioner and officials.

Milestone Achievement:

So far, 40 km of footpath walks have been completed within Bengaluru North City Corporation limits, as detailed below:

• Banaswadi – 5 km

• Thanisandra – 7 km

• Yelahanka – 10 km

• R.T. Nagar (Hebbal) – 7 km

• Sarvajnanagar – 5 km

• New Year Special Walk: JC Nagar to Mekhri Circle

• Kodigehalli – 6 km

Background of Project Walkaluru:

Launched on November 1, 2025, this initiative has already covered four out of the five city corporations. Walks have been conducted at Shivajinagar Rajyotsava 11K (Central City Corporation), Koramangala 5K on November 8, Jayanagar 5K on November 16 (South City Corporation), Banaswadi 5K on November 22, Thanisandra 8K on November 29 (North City Corporation), Yelahanka 10K on December 13, Bengaluru 26 km Walk on January 1, and Kammanahalli, among other areas.

With today’s 10th walk, a total of 78 km of footpaths have been covered. The mission is to achieve 100 km of walkable footpaths in the coming months.

Project Walkaluru is a joint initiative of GBA and citizens aimed at identifying and promoting walkable footpaths across Bengaluru.

Project Walkaluru Coordinator Arun Pai stated that when city corporation officials invite citizens to evaluate footpaths, it reflects their confidence in infrastructure and willingness to collaborate with the public to improve civic services. He added that the programme has helped bring the corporation and citizens closer, and the success of the first ten walks has encouraged similar initiatives across more parts of the city.
