Cookie Policy

This policy explains the cookies and similar browser-storage technologies Namma Ward™ uses, what each is for, and how you can control them. It covers browser caching as well, so no separate cache policy is maintained.

Effective 5 August 2026 · Version 2026-08-05

Pending legal review. This document describes how NammaWard actually handles data today. It has not yet been reviewed by a qualified legal practitioner and should be verified against the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the IT Rules before being relied upon as a binding notice.

What these technologies are

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Related technologies — local storage, session storage and the browser cache — store data in your browser in a similar way. We use a small number of these, described below.

Strictly necessary

These are required for the platform to work. They cannot be switched off, and the site cannot provide sign-in without them.

  • Session cookie — set when you sign in, so the platform recognises you across pages. It is removed when you sign out. Without it you would be signed out on every page load.
  • Security tokens — used to protect forms and sign-in requests against cross-site request forgery.

Functional storage

These remember small preferences and are stored in your browser rather than sent to us as cookies.

  • Local storage — remembers items you have liked, so the interface stays consistent between visits.
  • Session storage — remembers which articles and grievances you have already opened during this browser session, so a refresh does not inflate view counts. It is cleared when you close the tab.

Analytics

When analytics is enabled, we use Google Analytics to understand which pages residents find useful, in aggregate. Google Analytics sets its own cookies and processes data under Google's privacy policy. We use this only to measure and improve the platform, not to build advertising profiles, and we do not run advertising cookies.

Browser cache

Your browser stores copies of pages, images, fonts and scripts so the site loads faster on your next visit. This is standard web-browser behaviour rather than something we store about you, and it contains no personal data beyond the pages you requested. Clearing your browser cache removes it.

Third-party embeds

Some pages embed content from other services — for example a Google Maps location on the contact page, or a video linked to an event. Those services may set their own cookies when the embed loads, governed by their own policies.

How to control them

  • Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies and clear local and session storage from its settings or privacy section.
  • You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites using Google's browser opt-out add-on.
  • Blocking the strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in, but you can still read public pages.
