The Greater Bengaluru Authority has directed officials to distribute QR code–enabled identity cards to street vendors across all five city corporations by the end of March. The move aims to ensure accurate identification and better implementation of welfare schemes.

  • Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao chaired a virtual meeting on welfare programmes within the GBA jurisdiction.
  • Officials were instructed to print and distribute QR code–enabled identity cards to street vendors by the end of March.
  • The identity cards will be similar in format to voter ID cards, containing essential information on the card itself.
  • Additional detailed information about the vendor will be accessible through the QR code.

Street Vendor Data

  • 27,585 street vendors have been identified within the GBA jurisdiction.
  • Their complete details are already recorded in the official software system.

Reason for New ID Card Format

  • Earlier identity cards distributed to vendors contained inaccurate information.
  • Street vendors approached the High Court, after which authorities were directed to issue corrected identity cards containing complete details.
  • A new standardized format has now been prepared for distribution.

Onti Mane Scheme Support

  • Officials were instructed to release grants immediately to beneficiaries selected under the Onti Mane Scheme in the five city corporations.
  • Work orders must be issued by the end of March so that construction work can begin without delay.

Subsidy for Electric Vending Vehicles

  • Under welfare programmes, 3,236 subsidised vehicles will be provided, including:

Electric vegetable carts

  • Electric fruit carts
  • Electric ice cream carts
  • Electric fast-food carts
  • Three-wheelers
  • A demonstration of these electric vending vehicles will soon be conducted at the GBA head office.

Officials were directed to finalise beneficiary lists for several schemes, including:

  • E-vending vehicles scheme
  • Sewing machines distribution
  • Electric two-wheelers for pourakarmikas and working women
  • 14 types of skill training programmes
  • Electric wheelchairs
  • Sarathi scheme
  • Student fee reimbursement programme
  • Onti Mane Scheme
  • Amrutha Mahotsava scheme
