Property Tax Defaulters’ Properties Auctioned Under GBA Act 2024

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has initiated auction proceedings against long-pending property tax defaulters. Approximately ₹437 crore in arrears from around 7,000 properties remains unpaid. Auctions have begun as a final recovery measure under the Greater Bengaluru Administration Act 2024.

Key Details

• Around 7,000 properties have pending property tax dues totaling ₹437 crore.

• Demand notices were issued to defaulters.

• Follow-ups were conducted through SMS, IVRS calls, and local-level enforcement.

• Property attachment orders were issued in non-payment cases.

• Even after 60 days from attachment orders, dues remained unpaid.

• Under provisions of the Greater Bengaluru Administration Act, 2024, properties were placed for auction as a final recovery step.

• Defaulters were given an opportunity to clear dues before auction; payment would result in cancellation of auction proceedings.

• Despite this, several defaulters failed to pay.

• On 21-02-2026, Joint Commissioners of respective zones conducted auction proceedings starting with high-value arrear cases.

Auction Sales Conducted on 21-02-2026:

• North Corporation – 2 properties

• East Corporation – 5 properties

• Auction proceedings will continue in a phased manner.

• All defaulters who have received auction notices are requested to immediately clear pending dues
