ORARWA Raises Strong Objection to Reshme Bhavan Within City Limits

The Osborne Road Area Residents’ Welfare Association (ORARWA), representing over one lakh residents, has strongly objected to the proposed construction of Reshme Bhavan within city limits. The association stated that while residents support development, it must be carried out in a responsible and sustainable manner.
They expressed concerns over the functioning of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). Issues such as lack of administrative clarity, continued use of BBMP systems, and inadequate staffing were highlighted. The residents also alleged irregular updates and practices that are causing inconvenience and distress to citizens.
The association pointed out the environmental impact of rapid urbanization. Over the decades, Bengaluru has lost much of its greenery due to unplanned concrete development. This, they noted, has led to rising temperatures, increased dependence on air conditioning, and a decline in the city’s identity as a “Garden City.”
A major concern raised was the proposed cutting of at least 628 trees for the project. The residents warned that this would further worsen groundwater depletion and reduce water levels in lakes. They emphasized that greenery plays a crucial role in maintaining rainfall and overall environmental balance.
The association suggested that such a project would be more appropriate in rural areas, where sericulture is more relevant. They have urged the authorities to reconsider the proposal and take a more environmentally conscious decision.
ORARWA has appealed for immediate action and a favorable response, stressing the need to protect Bengaluru’s environment and long–term sustainability.
