One-Time Power Connection Relief for Eligible Buildings in GBA

The Government of Karnataka has issued a Government Order dated 05 June 2026, following Cabinet approval on 03 June 2026, providing a one-time relaxation to enable eligible buildings within the Greater Bengaluru Area (GBA) to obtain electricity connections. BESCOM will grant connections only after site verification and confirmation that the building meets the prescribed eligibility conditions.

Key Details:

• The Urban Development Department has directed the Electricity Department to facilitate power connections for eligible buildings within the Greater Bengaluru Area.

• The benefit applies to buildings constructed up to:

Ground + 3 Floors, or

• Stilt Parking + 4 Floors

• The relaxation covers buildings with a built-up area of up to 2,400 sq. ft., along with an additional 20% area tolerance as specified in the Government Order.

• The measure provides a one-time opportunity for eligible building owners to obtain electricity connections.

• BESCOM must conduct a spot inspection before granting any connection.

• Inspection records must include:

Physical verification of the building

• Photographic documentation

• Maintenance of relevant records

• Electricity connections will be provided only after BESCOM confirms compliance with the eligibility criteria prescribed in the Government Order.

• The relaxation is limited to electricity connectivity and does not regularize building violations or exempt owners from complying with other applicable laws and regulations.
