Kempegowda Was a Visionary Leader and Master Urban Planner, Says Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan

Vice President of India C.P. Radhakrishnan described Nadaprabhu Kempegowda as a visionary leader whose sustainable urban planning laid the foundation for Bengaluru’s emergence as a global hub for technology and innovation. He was speaking at the 517th Kempegowda Jayanti celebrations and Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Awards ceremony held in Bengaluru on June 27.

• Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the 517th Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Jayanti celebrations and Kempegowda Awards ceremony organized by the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Foundation.

• The event was held at Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, Bengaluru City University.

• He said Kempegowda was not merely a regional ruler but a visionary urban planner whose ideas on sustainable city development remain relevant even today.

• The Vice President highlighted Kempegowda’s contributions to water conservation through the construction of lakes and tanks, describing them as a model for modern urban planning and environmental sustainability.

• Congratulating this year’s Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Award recipients, he said the honour should inspire them to continue contributing to society.

• Addressing the youth, he urged them to embrace Kempegowda’s values of courage, social justice, inclusiveness, and public service in building a strong and self-reliant India.

Governor’s Remarks

• Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot praised Kempegowda’s vision, simplicity, and dedication to public service.

• He said Bengaluru’s transformation into a global centre for innovation, science, technology, and entrepreneurship reflects Kempegowda’s far-sighted leadership.

• The Governor noted that Kempegowda’s emphasis on water conservation, agriculture, trade, culture, and social harmony continues to offer valuable lessons for sustainable urban development.

• He described the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Awards as recognition of leadership, service, excellence, and commitment to societal progress.

Other Dignitaries

Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said Kempegowda’s long-term vision enabled Bengaluru’s growth into a globally recognised city. He also expressed concern over the disappearance of lakes in the name of development, despite Kempegowda’s emphasis on water conservation.
