Instructions Issued to Prevent Dengue Cases Across GBA During Monsoon Season

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has directed health officials to intensify dengue prevention measures across its jurisdiction during the monsoon season. Chief Health Officer Dr. S.S. Madani has urged residents to eliminate stagnant water sources and seek medical attention if dengue symptoms appear.

• Dr. S.S. Madani, Chief Health Officer of the Public Health Department, has issued instructions to prevent an increase in dengue cases.

• Dengue spreads through the bite of infected Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.

• These mosquitoes breed in clean stagnant water and are active mainly during daytime.

• Common symptoms include:

High fever

• Severe headache

• Pain behind the eyes

• Muscle and joint pain

• Severe dengue may cause bleeding from the mouth, nose, gums, and bleeding under the skin.

• There is currently no specific medicine or vaccine for dengue.

• Residents are advised to prevent water stagnation in:

Cement tanks

• Drums and barrels

• Refrigerators

• Flower pots

• Stone troughs

• Used containers and household items

• Discarded tyres, coconut shells, broken bottles, old refrigerators and similar waste materials should be properly disposed of.

Citizens are encouraged to use mosquito repellents and mosquito screens or nets.

• People experiencing fever or related symptoms are advised to consult doctors, healthcare staff, ASHA workers, or visit city corporation and government hospitals.

• The GBA emphasized that community participation is essential for effective dengue control and promoted the message: “Inspect, Clean and Cover.”
