Greater Bengaluru Authority Creates 50 Divisions and 150 Sub-Divisions for Administrative Efficiency

The Greater Bengaluru Authority has announced the formation of 50 divisions and 150 sub-divisions across the newly reorganized 369 wards to improve administrative coordination in the Revenue, Works, and Health departments across Bengaluru’s five city corporations.

Key Details

• Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao issued a circular announcing the creation of 50 administrative divisions and 150 sub-divisions within the jurisdiction of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).

• The restructuring follows the implementation of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024, which came into effect on 15 May 2025.

• With the enforcement of the Act:

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was dissolved.

• The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) was established.

• Under the GBA structure, five new city corporations were created:

Bengaluru Central City Corporation

• Bengaluru East City Corporation

• Bengaluru West City Corporation

• Bengaluru North City Corporation

• Bengaluru South City Corporation

• A Ward Delimitation Commission was constituted to reorganize the city’s wards.

• A total of 369 wards were created under the new corporations.

Division and Sub-Division Distribution

For improved functioning of Revenue, Works, and Health departments, the following administrative structure has been established:

Central City Corporation

• 63 Wards

• 7 Divisions

• 24 Sub-Divisions

East City Corporation

• 50 Wards

• 7 Divisions

• 22 Sub-Divisions

West City Corporation

• 112 Wards

• 15 Divisions

• 45 Sub-Divisions

North City Corporation

• 72 Wards

• 11 Divisions

• 30 Sub-Divisions

South City Corporation

• 72 Wards

• 10 Divisions

• 29 Sub-Divisions
