GBA Directs Drain Desilting and Roadside Drain Inspections Ahead of Monsoon

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has issued directives to all city corporations to urgently inspect and desilt roadside drains, shoulder drains, and gratings across major roads as part of pre-monsoon preparedness.

• Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has instructed immediate action to prevent waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon.

• Orders apply to arterial and sub-arterial roads under GBA jurisdiction.

• Proper connection to storm water drains

• For every 1 km stretch, at least:

10 inspection points (5 on each side) must be opened and checked

• Forest Department for removal/relocation of trees blocking drainage

• AMC teams must ensure periodic desilting of storm water drains

• Multi-level engineering teams (AEs, AEEs, EEs, consultants, contractors) to be mobilized

• Dedicated inspection teams to work under supervision of senior officials

Road flooding

• Water entering residential basements

• Complaints were received via control rooms and helplines

• All inspections and actions must be completed on or before 08 May 2026
