GBA Directs Completion of Stormwater Drain Works Before Monsoon

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has instructed officials to complete ongoing stormwater drain (rajakaluve) development works before the monsoon, with a focus on lake connectivity and nature-based solutions.

• Objective: Complete stormwater drain works before pre-monsoon rains (May)

• Focus: Flood prevention, lake rejuvenation, and sustainable infrastructure

Project Funding:

• ₹175 crore under National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF)

• ₹2000 crore under World Bank-assisted Karnataka Water Security and Resilience Programme (KWSRP)

• Expedite stormwater drain works connecting one lake to another

• Ensure completion before onset of monsoon

• Prioritize nature-based solutions in all projects

Nature-Based Approach:

• Prevent sewage entry into lakes

• Replicate wetland model (Jakkur Lake) across other lakes

• Use plants like Colocasia and Canna indica for natural filtration
