The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has announced that all preparations are complete for the house listing and housing census under Census 2027. The first phase will be conducted through door-to-door visits across GBA limits from April 16 to May 15.
Key Details
- House listing and housing census underway as part of Census 2027 – Phase 1
- Survey period: April 16 to May 15
- 23,000+ enumerators and 2,500 supervisors deployed
- Each enumerator assigned approximately 200 households
- Data collection will take 5–8 minutes per household
- Citizens are legally required to participate under the Census Act, 1948
- Less than 2% participation recorded in self-enumeration phase (ended April 15)
Field Process
- Enumerators will visit homes between 9 AM and 5 PM
- Extended hours (after one week):
6 AM to 10 AM
- 6 PM to 9 PM
- If residents are unavailable:
A sticker with contact details will be placed at the residence
- Residents can request a revisit
Staff Deployment
- Total workforce: 26,000 personnel
- Includes 10,000 teachers
- Exemptions provided for:
Pregnant women
- Individuals with serious health conditions
- Persons with disabilities
- Mothers with infants under one year
Next Phase
- Population enumeration (Phase 2) will begin in April 2027 after completion of house listing
