Footpath Reclamation Milestone: North Corporation Clears 176.55 km in One Month, Central Reaches 190.80 km

Bengaluru's footpath reclamation drive crossed major milestones on 1 August 2026, with two city corporations reporting substantial cumulative clearances under the direction of Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.

North Corporation: 176.55 km Cleared in One Month

The Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC), under Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar, has cleared a total of 176.55 km of footpaths from encroachments between 1 July and 1 August 2026.

The month's cumulative highlights: 415 shops/petty shops removed, 608 pushcarts removed, 1,389 AC sheets and canopies removed, 1,270 steps and ramps removed, 1,369 advertisement poles and name boards removed, 45 temporary/permanent sheds removed, 1,508.20 tonnes of construction debris and earth cleared, and 8 km of footpaths repaired.

On 1 August, the drive covered Shettihalli Main Road in Dasarahalli division (1.50 km), removing 1 petty shop, 4 pushcarts, 8 AC sheets/canopies, 8 steps/ramps, 2 advertisement poles and 30 tonnes of debris, with 1 JCB, 2 tippers and 15 staff deployed.

Central Corporation: 190.80 km Till Date

The Bengaluru Central City Corporation (BCCC) cleared 5.80 km across six roads on 1 August, taking its cumulative footpath clearance to 190.80 km. The corporation's location-wise operation details are attached below.

BNCC has said the special drives will continue "to reclaim footpaths for public use and strengthen infrastructure for safe, hassle-free pedestrian movement", and appealed to the public not to encroach on footpaths and to cooperate with the corporations in keeping public spaces clear.
