Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) has launched the “DClutter” mobile application to help residents dispose of old and bulky household waste through an organized collection system across the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) area.
Key Details:
- The DClutter app has been introduced for disposal of bulky household waste such as:
Old furniture
- Sofas
- Mattresses
- Cupboards
- Discarded clothes
- Broken sanitary items
- Old commodes
- Footwear and other large waste items
- The app is available on:
Google Play Store
- Apple App Store
- Citizens can schedule pickup requests directly through the app.
- Waste collection will be carried out weekly depending on:
Quantity of waste
- Type of materials
- Recyclable items will be sent to authorized recycling units.
- Non-recyclable waste will be processed scientifically at waste-to-energy plants.
Background:
According to BSWML, bulky waste was previously being dumped along roadsides and public spaces due to the lack of a dedicated collection system. During pilot operations using tractor-based collection drives, around 6,000 metric tonnes of bulky waste were identified and collected from various parts of Bengaluru.
How the DClutter App Works:
- Download the app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Register using basic details.
- Select items for disposal.
- Schedule a pickup time.
- BSWML teams will collect the waste from the doorstep.
