Buy Land in Temples' Names, Install CCTV on Donation Boxes by August-End: DyCM Parameshwara at Dharmika Parishad

Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara chaired a meeting of the Rajya Dharmika Parishad at Vidhana Soudha on 1 August 2026 and issued a series of directions for the comprehensive development of temples in the State.

Key Directions

  1. Purchase land in the temples' names: Officials were directed to buy land in the name of 'A' and 'B' category temples across the State. "Temples have sufficient funds. Such property will remain with the temples permanently and facilitate infrastructure for devotees," he said.
  2. CCTV on donation boxes by August-end: On the Chief Minister's direction, CCTV cameras must be installed to monitor temple hundis (donation boxes) and prevent misuse of offerings — to be completed by the end of August.
  3. Basic amenities and master plans: Pulling up officials over the lack of basic facilities at several prominent temples, the DyCM said there is no shortage of funds and directed that master plans be prepared without negligence.
  4. No adoption of 'C' category temples: 'C' category temples shall not be handed over to any organisation for adoption — those who adopt temples may later claim rights over temple properties. Instead, 10% of the grants of 'A' category temples must be used for development of 'C' category temples.
  5. Encroachments to be cleared in three months: Encroached temple properties must be surveyed on priority, cleared and handed over to the Muzrai Department within three months.
  6. Scholarships: With the academic year underway, applications are to be invited for scholarships for the children of priests and employees of notified temples.

Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Rajendra Kumar Kataria, Muzrai Commissioner Sharath, and Parishad members K.M. Nagaraju, Dr. A. Radhakrishna Raju, Dwarakanath, Mallika Prashanth Pakkala and Ravishankar Shetty were present.
