Bengaluru South City Appeals Against Harassment of Stray Dog Feeders

Bengaluru South City Corporation has urged citizens not to harass people who feed stray dogs, reiterating that feeding stray dogs is legal. The appeal was made during a high-level review meeting that also discussed feeding zones, animal welfare initiatives, and coordinated management practices.

Key Details:

• A review meeting was held at the Corporation Hall under the leadership of Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Shrinath.

• More than 50 corporation volunteers, stray dog feeders, animal lovers, and stakeholders participated.

• Officials reiterated that feeding stray dogs is legal and should not lead to harassment of animal caretakers.

• The meeting referred to directions issued by GBA Chief Commissioner Shri Maheshwar Rao and orders of the Supreme Court.

• Authorities emphasized that stray dogs should not be relocated and feeders should not face unnecessary trouble.

• Officials and volunteers were instructed to identify safe and systematic feeding zones within corporation limits.

• Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and local communities were encouraged to participate in the process.

• Corporation officials were directed to ensure animal welfare measures are implemented without causing inconvenience to residents or creating conflicts.

• Progress of shelter homes, vaccination drives, rescue operations, adoption programmes and Animal Birth Control (ABC) projects was reviewed.

• Representatives of animal welfare organisations, rescue workers, volunteers and stray dog feeders attended the meeting.
