Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar has directed all departments to work in coordination to ensure the successful implementation of the National Pulse Polio Programme (NID)-2026. A District Coordination Committee meeting reviewed preparedness, departmental responsibilities, vaccination targets, and dengue prevention measures ahead of the campaign scheduled from June 28 to July 1, 2026.

National Pulse Polio Programme Schedule

  • Booth Day: June 28, 2026

Children will receive polio drops at designated vaccination booths.

  • House-to-House Campaign: June 29, 30 and July 1, 2026

Vaccination teams will visit homes to vaccinate children missed on Booth Day.

Programme Priorities:

  • Prevent importation of poliovirus from polio-endemic countries.
  • Prevent Vaccine Derived Poliovirus (VDPV) cases.
  • Strengthen surveillance to ensure no cases are missed.
  • Achieve 100% vaccination coverage in High-Risk Areas (HRA).
  • Strengthen routine immunization services.

Pulse Polio Programme 2025 Achievement

Officials reported that during the December 2025 Pulse Polio Programme:

  • Target children: 270,297
  • Vaccinated children: 270,579
  • Coverage achieved: 100.10%

Preparatory Activities Underway

  • Training of vaccinators and supervisors.
  • Distribution of vaccines and logistics.
  • Public awareness campaigns.
  • Public announcements and media outreach.
  • Programme preparedness assessments.

Women and Child Development Department Responsibilities

The department has been directed to:

  • Keep Anganwadi Centres open on vaccination day.
  • Ensure all eligible children receive polio vaccination.
  • Identify newborn children.
  • Conduct awareness activities during mothers’ meetings.
  • Involve Stree Shakti Groups in campaign outreach.

Dengue Prevention Measures Reviewed

The meeting also reviewed dengue control efforts, including:

  • Weekly Dengue Dry Day activities.
  • Larval surveys.
  • Source reduction drives.
  • Strengthened inter-departmental coordination.

Officials noted that special focus is being placed on dengue prevention ahead of the monsoon season.
