Bengaluru Hasiruru from 15 August: 60,000 Saplings to Be Planted, RWAs Invited to Apply by 10 August

Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has appealed to citizens and Residents' Welfare Associations (RWAs) to actively participate in the Bengaluru Hasiruru (ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಹಸಿರೂರು) campaign and transform it into a people's movement. He was reviewing preparations at a virtual meeting on 1 August 2026 for the large-scale tree plantation drive proposed to be launched from 15 August across the GBA limits.

The Plan

The city plans to plant 60,000 saplings and distribute 40,000 saplings under the campaign. The response has been strong already — 236 applications have been received from residents offering to plant more than 43,000 saplings. Officials have been directed to inspect the proposed sites, assess suitability and finalise plantation locations, collect sapling requirements from all RWAs to prepare a comprehensive demand list, organise training on plantation and maintenance practices, conduct pledge programmes for long-term care of saplings, and complete plantation-related tenders and work orders without delay.

Residents, RWAs and citizens who have space to plant a minimum of 30 saplings in their layouts, streets or public places can apply on or before 10 August 2026:

Forest Department officials will inspect the sites, and where found suitable, the city corporation will undertake the plantation.

"Participate in large numbers — not only by planting saplings but by taking responsibility for nurturing and protecting them," the Chief Commissioner appealed. Special Commissioner Sushama Godbole, Deputy Conservator of Forests Sudarshan, Joint Director (Horticulture) Chandrashekhar and city corporation officials attended the review.
